This award acknowledges and celebrates an outstanding musical theatre provision in a primary or secondary setting.

The winning school will demonstrate that musical theatre is vital to both the music and drama departments and the ethos of the entire school.

Schools will be judged on rehearsal and performance opportunities provided, the educational value and positive influence on students involved in musical theatre, the creativity and innovation of the leadership team, and whether musical theatre brings the entire school and wider community together.

Applications should show:

• • A proven impact on students. The application should highlight the positive impacts of musical theatre on student development and well-being; this can include improved confidence, communication skills, teamwork, creativity, and academic performance.
• • How the school is making the most of the resources and budget available and overcoming barriers within the student body.
• • How the wider school community is involved in the musical theatre programme. This may include support from parents, teachers, school staff, and community members in various aspects such as volunteering, attending performances, fundraising, or providing resources (costumes, props etc.).
• • Evidence of long-term impact. The school should demonstrate the long-term benefits of the musical theatre programme for students, such as development of transferable skills, or personal growth, self-expression, confidence, and career opportunities in the performing arts.

The judges will consider both artistic excellence and outstanding commitment to musical theatre when making their decision. They would like to see evidence that a significant number of students are benefitting from the musical theatre programme, and that the school offers non-performance related opportunities for students within the musical theatre world, such as set building, costumes and props, lighting and sound, direction, or orchestra opportunities.
